Date: Sunday 23rd June, 2013

Result: Rathcoffey 1-11; Milltown 1-06

With a strong wind blowing down the Number One pitch, a good display of free taking by Jason Acton and a superbly taken goal by Brian Tyrrell, helped to secure just the second league win of the season for Rathcoffey.

The first half in particular showed Acton’s value to Rathcoffey as he helped the hosts to a five point lead at half time.   Rathcoffey’s midfield pairing of Mark Holligan and Sean Hayden, making a welcome return from injury, dominated the first half proceedings and used possession well to link up with Rathcoffey’s lively forward line.  At this end of the field, Warren Beale, Colum Fagan and young Anthony Tyrrell showed well in particular.   The defence played some of their best football of the season, holding Milltown to two points for the half.

The second half started well for Rathcoffey, with Mark Holligan getting on the score board.  Further points from Anthony Tyrrell, Fagan and Acton helped to extend Rathcoffey’s lead.  Then a superb goal by the attacking wing back, Brian Tyrrell, ensured that Rathcoffey held a comprehensive lead moving into the final stages of the game.   A late penalty and a couple of points for Milltown moved them closer in the end, but Rathcoffey showed that their recent good form, while not yielding points on the league table, is delivering consistent performances.

Best for Rathcoffey were   Sean Moriarty, Colum Fagan, midfielders Sean Hayden and Mark Holligan, Jason Acton and Paul Maguire.
